So when we last left off the History (prior to learning about the super-cool internet prototype that Bronson had gifted Kelley) Kelley and Theodora had arrived at their first class destination and were preparing to start a class. Even though no one had shown up. Which is quite typical really. Has anything EVER happened correctly the first time for our Princess Becoming? Definitely not. But that’s ok though – how boring would this History be if she could snap her fingers and things just magically happened correctly the first time. Every time. Yeah, no fun in that.
Anyway, as she and Theodora started on the lotion people began popping in. “Is this the class we read about?” “What is that smell?” “What are you making?” “Is that Kelley?”
Theodora was quick to greet each newcomer and assure them that yes, this was the class; the wonderful scent was a mixture of lavender, rose, and a few other flowers; they were making lotion; and yes, the red-haired girl was Kelley! The ladies (and a few men too) eagerly joined in and it wasn’t long before the class was full of eager students. So much for this being a disaster!
The people in this first class learned to make lotion and salve and once it was over, the small number of supplies they had on hand were quickly sold. Clearly they would need a better way of getting a larger number of supplies to each class location if this first one was any indication of what could be expected in future classes. The attendees went away thrilled with what they had learned and determined to create their own luscious products. Eager to learn more, they begged Kelley and Theodora to come again VERY soon.
The success of the first class was repeated at each of the other 6 locations. Thankfully Theodora was able to get some of those delightful elves to transport a greater number of supplies and at the end of the first week, Soapies was flush with cash and Kelley was nearly delirious with the excitement of just HOW well this had panned out. Each town had booked multiple new classes and Kelley’s schedule for the next 2 months was filled. In fact, it was so full, there was no room left for traveling to other towns. That could be a real problem – she wanted to travel the world, not the same 7 towns. There were hundreds, if not thousands, of other towns out there that would benefit from her classes. What to do?
She met with Theodora and Bronson and the perfect solution was reached. Kelley (and Theodora) would teach the first class in each new location and subsequent classes would be taught by a few of the other Soapies “girls”. This way Kelley would be able to travel and set the stage for future classes. In addition, she would be available for special bookings throughout the year so if a town was really bent on having HER there, that would be possible. Future appearances by Kelley would be fee-based and she was quite overwhelmed at the thought that her presence was of such value. Her life was radically different than her pre-Princess Becoming days of neglect and abuse at the hand of her horrid step-monster.
And so began the next chapter of Soapies. I won’t bore you with the ho hum details of the classes and all that. Yawn. Basically several years went by in which the Soapies shop in Freedom outgrew the space they occupied and they were forced to build a huge building of their own. The leaders of the town bent over backwards to help with this – after all, it was Soapies who turned their town from a dirty slum into a thriving town that was rapidly nearing city status. New businesses moved in and life in Freedom was cleaner and much more profitable. And far less… stinky!
Kelley traveled the world. She saw everything there was to see and when she began to revisit previous towns, she was nearly unrecognizable. Her fiery hair nearly touched the ground and sparkled and shimmered as she moved. There was a radiance about her that was noticeable at all times. People began to whisper as she would come to town – “what’s the deal with Kelley? Look at her!”
Eventually, Bronson pulled Theodora aside and told her The Time was approaching. Theodora nearly burst into flames (or an explosion of flowers or whatever fairies do when they are overcome with excitement and joy). Finally! She quickly spread the word to the other fairies and elves and they eagerly began preparations…
Preparations for what? Find out next week!
