Last week, Kelley was in the midst of a terrible storm that seemed to be gathered just around her farm. Grismelda had been blown into the barn and was shrieking in terror as the barn seemed ready to give way and crush her beneath.
Kelley stood in the yard, fists clenched at her side, not moving. The wind continued to grow in strength and all hope seemed lost for Grismelda (no great loss for anyone, if we’re going to be frank…) when suddenly, Bronson appeared beside her. Reaching out, he gently grasped Kelley’s arms and then her hands. Time paused for a moment and then Kelley sighed deeply and as quickly as it had begun, the wind stopped and all was quiet once again.
In the silence that followed, Kelley looked down at Bronson and then began to laugh silently. She laughed and laughed until she fell to the ground and then she laughed until she was nearly senseless. Bronson stood looking at her while she laughed and as it was obvious he was no longer needed, he gave her one last glance, winked, and then vanished.
Kelley eventually got up and gathered her sack and without a backwards glance began to walk away. As she reached the road, Grismelda staggered from the barn and seeing Kelley walking away, began to scream at her to return at once. Kelley continued to walk along the road to her freedom. No more weeks locked in the cellar. No more abuse from the stepmonster. No more abductions by the neighbor hag. She was finally free to be herself. Where she would go she had no idea. She just knew she had to leave if she was going to continue on the road to Princess Becoming…
